Seven apprentices from Partick Thistle FC’s youth academy have successfully completed SVQ’s in Sports Coaching!

This exciting partnership is rooted in shared values and a commitment to young people’s development.

Over the course of the 25/26 season we worked with 7 players from Partick Thistle’s Youth Academy to deliver a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Sports Coaching. This nationally recognised qualification has given these players an opportunity to experience coaching form the other side.

They spent time at Western Tennis Club, working with coach Julie Gordon, to explore different ways of coaching and exposing them to a new sport, helping to push them out of their comfort zone.

In more familiar settings they worked with younger players in the Partick Thistle Youth Academy, allowing them to put theory into practice in a setting they’re comfortable. They would work through the whole process, from planning a session, running it, adapting it on the go to ensure it was effective as possible, before evaluating it afterwards and thinking about what could be better for their next session.

We hope these experiences combined with the theory work they have completed over the course of the season has helped these players to think about life after what are hopefully long and successful careers as football players.

Together, Tigers and Partick Thistle FC are showing how sport and education can come together to create powerful, purpose-driven opportunities for young people, all built on strong values, meaningful relationships, and a belief in the potential of every individual.

We’re looking forward to continuing our partnership with Partick Thistle and hope to offer more young players the chance to explore other careers in the game, helping them to think about life after football.

Inspiring Potential since 2001.
